For younger professionals, especially those with diverse interests and talents like myself, I recommend using your twenties to explore various pursuits and then narrowing your focus in your thirties.
However, regardless of age, embracing exploration and curiosity throughout life is essential – try new things, branch out, and discover unexpected passions.
Guided by the question, 'If I were to die tonight, would I go to bed without regrets?', I delved into a multitude of interests in my twenties – from music, mental health counselling, and social projects to business development, HR, strategy, and organisational change. I started my podcast, Origins Africa, and also began writing this newsletter series.
Now in my thirties, I have gained clarity on what to specialise in and am laser-focused on those areas. Remember, Lesson 2: Action Leads to Clarity :-)
It is crucial not to spread yourself too thin, however; prioritise activities that sustain you while exploring diverse interests at different times.
Wishing you courage and clarity on your path,
O’Seye
